DC Invasion

DC was a long and loud weekend. Lots of action in Adams Morgan, which is a ripe landing strip for any Party Pioneer.
DC is like Chucky Cheese for 20-somethings: The older folk stand on the sidelines and watch the kids run amok with ambition and abandon. This weekend was the culmination of the “intern” season (one friend referred to it as “Skintern Season”, which was hilarious). A peculiar way to designate the summer months seemingly unique to DC.
The scene is pretty simple here: You got Adams Morgan, which is a strip of bars that all close around 3am. Most of these bars have dancing, a little patio, etc. This is by far the biggest and most known bar strip in the district. Next down the line is Depont Circle, which is what we call Zone Baller: This is where the true clubs are, trendy bars, etc. Then, Near the Hill is Easter Market, which is a bit more happy hour oriented, a little more low key, with a lot more ties. Finally, there are a few off the beaten path areas that are somewhat up and coming: Old Town in Alexandria and U Street. Both of those later areas are rife with house party action as well, being cheaper to live in with more Sq footage.
Again, with Boston, the 12pm DC Metro close is a bit annoying. People told me that the Red and Green lines are open past bar time, so if you got your pick of places to stay, on the Red or Green would be optimal (Sorry Virginia). Cab rides aren’t terrible, there are no meters so you dont really know if you are getting ripped off, but its all done by zones anyways. So depending on points A and B, cab rides can be either pleasantly cheap and damningly expensive.
As for the Hobo: This is a great town for Hobo smoking, and here’s why: 1) Plenty of outdoor patios, reputed to be open all year round with outdoor heaters, 2) Virginia has indoor smoking! SWEET BABY J, I haven’t been in a smoking bar since Jersey banned it last year. I felt like I was in a sepia toned Western movie with the waft of tobacco ever present indoors (in Virginia), 3) Young people, lots of them. You can’t swing a dead cat in DC without meeting someone new, with some fascinating back story, incessantly inquiring: So, what brings you to DC swinging a dead cat?
Okay, that last paragraph was a bit arduous, but you get the idea: DC is a fun town, easy to pick up on, but with enough depth to keep you invigorated for years.
If you need any other reason to check this place out, BONUS: Drunken Monument Tours. That is all, from the Nations Capital.
