Review: Tia’s Waterfront
On a Saturday night in Boston, what better place to go to enjoy a little hookah and beer than on the waterfront? That was our idea, so we decided to head to Tia’s Waterfront attached to the waterfront Mariott.
Tia’s is your classic see and be seen location in Boston. With a huge out door terrace and a great view of Boston Harbor, this place is packed, always, when the night sky is clear. As with such a place, you get the regular popped collar crowd intermingled with more established big buck business men and women, who don’t think twice about dropping $6 for a draft Bud Light or $8+ for a cocktail, all served in a stylish plastic cup. Really, though, for this view, it’d be worth it.
Also with such a place, you get the regular draconian management and beefed up, no talk, bouncers. This is who we had a run in with. Tia’s is decidedly not Hobo friendly. They didn’t even want to hear about it, and we got tossed with in about 30 minutes. No worries though.
So the table next to us, immediately recognized the Hobo and began chatting us up. A few minutes later, when we were tossed, they joined us in adjacent Columbus Park, where we exchanged Borat quotes and enjoyed the clear night sky and Boston backdrop. A great night in the end, all made possible by the age old tradition of sharing a smoke.
Don’t try to go here if you want to smoke hookah, you are better off in Harvard Square or the North End, where there are plenty of friendly, laid back, open patios and cheaper drinks to go around. Actually, Tia’s sucks, dismount your collar and head somewhere else.
